I worked at American Defense Systems: Pros: Mission was important. Company was successful in the early years when there was no competition. Accounting team was amazing on what they had to do. Cons: Too many personnel changes at critical times. Company wouldn’t advertise, hoping its past performance would carry them. Engineering had no original thoughts or ability to create new concepts which was suppose to be a strength. Company has done disappearing act in last couple of years ignoring shareholders.

Disapproves of CEO. I worked at American Defense Systems for more than 10 years. Pros: Some of the most interesting and rewarding work I’ve done in my career. Many talented and dedicated employees at the lower levels. Ample opportunity for travel. Cons: Upper management was absolutely useless at finding and bidding on new business. Couldn’t make a profit because they had absolutely no idea what their operating expenses were. Company was extremely management top heavy. Numerous dead weight employees getting paid to do nothing. Employees who worked the hardest were rewarded the least. Upper management constantly lied to vendors, customers, and employees.

A Hicksville manufacturer of defense and law enforcement equipment, American Defense Systems Inc., said Thursday it is moving to North Carolina as a cost-cutting tactic aimed at saving $1.5 million a year with lower overhead along with cuts to staff and salaries.
“We have been proud to be one of the few remaining government defense contractors based on Long Island, however, it makes prudent financial sense for us to relocate our business to a significantly lower cost center in North Carolina,” Anthony Piscitelli, the chief executive, said in a news release.
“Our lower cost basis, particularly regarding logistics, will allow us to be that much more competitive in our bid processes and should translate to more contract wins.”
The company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EAG, said its operations in Hicksville will cease as of Tuesday and it will reopen in Lillington, N.C., south of Raleigh.
ADSI’s product line includes “advanced solutions in the design, fabrication, and installation of transparent and opaque armor, security doors, windows and curtain wall systems for use by military, law enforcement, homeland defense and corporate customers.”
The company did not say how many jobs it has now, or how many it will eliminate.
Earlier this year ADSI was in the news when it said it entered a voluntary federal government program to certify that all its employees are authorized to work in the United States.

American Defense Systems creates bullet- and blast-resistant panels for inauguration

Jan. 20–One of the layers of security protecting Barack Obama today as he’s sworn in as president and makes his first speech as chief executive will be bullet- and blast-resistant glass panels produced by American Defense Systems Inc. of Hicksville and arrayed around the podium.
Ordered by the Secret Service under a contract whose details and cost are classified, the panels are made of multiple layers of glass bonded with a proprietary substance, said Roger Ward, the company’s vice president of marketing and investor relations.
The panels are designed to both deflect the paths of — and absorb — projectiles, including bullets and fragments from explosives. “Obviously it can’t stop everything; it depends on what’s being thrown at it,” Ward said yesterday. “But, without question, I can state that the glass will stop [a round from] any handgun, and it will stop assault rifles. It will stop a lot.”
American Defense glass has protected Obama twice before during speeches, Ward said, while an earlier design of its panels surrounded President George W. Bush during his 2005 inauguration.
Founded in 2002 by its current chief executive, Tony Piscitelli, American Defense also makes traditional opaque armor, and its main business is supplying protective systems for operators of military construction equipment being used in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The company, whose shares are traded on the American Stock Exchange, employs about 90 people in Hicksville. In a statement Dec. 29, it forecast a 26 percent increase in revenues this year over last, to more than $52 million.

American Defense Systems issued a total of 15,000 restricted shares of Series A Preferred Stock and Warrants at $1,000 per share.
